"We don’t remember days; we remember moments" ~Cesare Pavese, The Burning Brand

"Memory is a child walking along a seashore. You never can tell what small pebble it will pick up and store away among its treasured things." ~Pierce Harris, Atlanta Journal

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes" Romans 1:16

So basically my day consists of schoolwork and keeping warm. :D Every morning I do my own personal devotions and I've been working through the book of Romans. Today I read Romans 12. Basically it is talking about always presenting ourselves as servants of God. We must always present ourselves as holy and acceptable and not to conform ourselves to the world. If we follow the ways of the world and accept it's ways, we will be blinded to the will of God and what is holy and acceptable.

"Do not therefore be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2

Paul also tells us what the marks of a true Christian are in verses 9 through 21:

"Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Romans 12:9-21

I think as Christians, we all desire to do the will of God and stay holy and pure. Sin is a powerful thing and always tempts us to do the opposite of what we know is right. But in praying, devoting ourselves fully to God, always meditating on His word, God will be with us through all our trials and tribulations. For as it says in Romans 5: 3-5 "Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."

  1. Romans is such a wonderful book.. The full-orbed-ness of the theology that Paul presents in those chapters is staggering for such a short section of the Bible! Thanks for the encouraging words -- stay warm today, hope orientation goes swimmingly!

  2. I love the picture of the bible! I tried that a few times and actually have a few tips for you. When taking any pic that is word, book, or page oriented you should try to get it into black and white, and when taking the pic throw in an old pencil (one of those old yellow ones that isn't mechanical) along with some eraser rubbings. It gives the pic such great definition, however I must admit that is is fantastic by itself.
